BeschreibungDie Smith & Wesson Model SW40F ist eine full-size, halbautomatische Selbstladepistole im Kaliber .40 S&W. Sie gehört zur berühmt-berüchtigten Sigma-Serie, die Smith & Wesson 1994 als direkte Antwort auf den massiven Markterfolg von Glock auf den Markt brachte. Das "F" in der Modellbezeichnung steht dabei für "Full-Size".
Historischer Hintergrund & Rechtstreit mit Glock: Die SW40F erlangte vor allem historische Berühmtheit, weil sie der Glock 17/22 strukturell und optisch so extrem ähnlich war, dass die österreichische Firma Glock eine Patentklage gegen Smith & Wesson einreichte. Der Rechtsstreit wurde 1997 außergerichtlich beigelegt. Smith & Wesson musste eine ungenannte Summe (Lizenzgebühren) an Glock zahlen und das Design der darauffolgenden Sigma-Modelle (wie der SW40VE) leicht modifizieren.
