| 38-40 Winchester; fair bore, good stock, 24'' barrel, Manufactured in 1888. 24" full octagon barrel with full length magazine tube. Stamped on top of the barrel with the King's improvement markings" WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. / -KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860-". The caliber designation is located on top of the barrel chamber ".38 W.C.F.". The receiver tang is stamped "-MODEL 1873-". The trigger guard tang is stamped with the serial number at the end of the tang. Silver bladed fixed front sight, buckhorn style elevation adjustable rear sight is a possible replacement. The metal finish has turned an even light brown patina overall. There is some scattered light spotting and minor pitting, mainly around the end of the muzzle and top of the receiver. Walnut stock with crescent butt. There is some minor shrinkage of the wood at borders with the metal. Initials CL lightly carved onto the right side of the butt. The wood shows age and handling. Mechanics are fine. The parts appear to be the originals except for the rear sight and possibly the sliding dust cover which ahs hsd some cold blue touchup. The bore has fairly strong rifling however is a bit dark and shows pitting throughout the barrel., s/n 2808xxB |
