| 44-40 Winchester; fair bore, good stock, 20'' barrel, Manufactured in 1898. Round barrel with fixed front and carbine ladder rear sights, graduated 200-900 yards. Top of the barrel is marked betrween the band and rear sight "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING-ARMS NEW HAVEN / KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860.". Caliber designation "44 W.C.F." stamped over the chamber. Upper tang engraved "-Model 1873-", serial number located on the end of the lower tang. Bottom of the brass elevator is engraved with the caliber "44 Cal". The bottom front of the frame has been erratically hand stamped with tiny numbers "18321" over letters JR. Metal has aged to a spotty patina overall. Walnut stock is good, having small dings and scratches, and an illegible previous owners name is lightly scratched onto the right side of the butt. The action functions well. The bore has strong rifling and some shine however shows corrosion throughout. Antique, s/n 5149xxB |
