| 44-40 Winchester; fair bore, good stock, 20'' barrel, 3rd model, manufactured in 1887. Even blue/patina mix metal finish, Original walnut stock in overall good condition, quite a bit of saddle rash on the right side of the buttstock. Round barrel with fixed front sight, ladder rear sight. Base screw on the rear sight is a possible replacement. Integral dust cover rail on top of the receiver, cover with serrated edges. Band screw replaced. Stamped on top of the barrel "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING-ARMS NEW HAVEN CT / KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860.". Caliber designation over the chamber "44 W.C.F.". "44 Cal" engraved on the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator. Butt trap in the stock with 3 sections of cleaning rod. Mechanically fine. The bore has strong rifling, shows corrosion throughout. Antique., s/n 2468xx |
