30 Caliber; 95% blue, Excellent bore, Excellent + grips, Excellent stock, 5.5in.'' barrel, An incredible historic C96 w/ stock, cased with accessories. Has a large ring hammer, C96 S/N 31831 30. Cal. This pistol is in excellent condition. Comes with a nice shoulder/ holster stock that is mismatched by a few numbers. Also comes with a nice period style attached case. With the original cleaning rod, oil box, dummy rounds, and ammo boxes. The pistol is inscribed “Presented to Major C. Ross. Canadian Scouts -By- Capt. C.A.R. Shower” (Stower). The original owner, Major Charles Ross. Was born in 1857, in Australia. At Orange, New South Whales. He stowed away on a ship to America when he was only 9 years old. Captured by the Indians for 7 years. He was scout for the U. S. Army during the Indian Wars. (1877-1879). Joined the Canadian NWMP in 1884, as a Chief Scout for Riel Rebellion until 1897, He went to Africa for the Boer War and received the DSO and other medals. He started a trading post in Africa and was an avid elephant hunter. Was often a guide for Teddy Roosevelt on expeditions. He was appointed Chief Game Ranger in Kenya from 1907 to 1922. He formed Ross’s Scout’s in 1914 and fought in German East Africa. A Book Born to Fight is included, which tells the entire history of Major Ross and the pistol.
