Description:
8x57mm; 98% blue, excellent bore, very good stock, 23.5'' barrel, Original blued finish, with phosphate finish small parts including the bolt. The bolt is matching. Remainder of parts are not numbered which is proper. Stamped on top of the receiver ring with an eagle/135 proof over "Mod.98" and with the code and date "byf 45". The left side of the barrel and receiver ring are stamped with the eagle/swaztika military acceptance mark. The right side of the receiver ring is stamped with a single eagle/135 proof and a small illegible proof. Raw laminated wood stock and handguard, neither are numbered internally or externally. The handguard is stamped on the top with a small eagle/swaztika over "c". Cupped buttplate with hole. No takedown discs on butt. The front of the grip behind the trigger guard is stamped with an eagle/WaA135 proof with another located about center on the bottom of the butt. Stamped trigger guard and floorplate are byf marked and eagle/135 proofed. Stamped and welded upper and lower barrel bands, both screw held, both unmarked. This particular Kreigsmodell 98K is fitted with the rear sight base having the dovetail for a ZF-41 scope. However, the stock is not relieved for the scope when mounted. According to the book Sniper Variations of the German K98k Rifle by Richard D Law, on page 94, it is mentioned that several of these rifles seem to have been fitted with the Zf base, and speculation is that these were mounted only because they were available in the limited supply of component parts being used at the time. Rifle is in overall excellent condition, there is some light surface rust spotting on the bands and trigger guard assembly. And some rust on the buttplate, mainly at the heel. Mechanically fine, the bore is bright and sharp. No import marks., s/n 149xx
