Der Smith & Wesson Model 36-1 ist ein kompakter Revolver aus der J-Frame-Baureihe und eine Variante des bekannten Chief's Special. Das Modell wurde für die Patrone .38 S&W Special ausgelegt und zeichnet sich insbesondere durch seinen 3"-Heavy-Barrel aus. Der Model 36-1 wurde ab 1967 als Ausführung mit schwerem 3"-Lauf eingeführt. Der Revolver verfügt über einen ausschwenkbaren 5-schüssigen Trommelzylinder sowie ein Double-Action-/Single-Action-Abzugssystem. Die kompakte J-Frame-Konstruktion verbindet handliche Abmessungen mit dem für das Kaliber .38 Special typischen Revolverkonzept. Durch den 3"-Heavy-Barrel unterscheidet sich der Model 36-1 deutlich von der besonders bekannten 2"-Ausführung des Model 36. Heute ist er insbesondere als klassischer Smith-&-Wesson-Revolver und aufgrund seiner besonderen Konfiguration für Sammler interessant.
