| La période Kamakura (1185-1333) fut une époque cruciale dans l'histoire du Japon. Elle est caractérisée par le premier gouvernement militaire (shogunat), créé par Minamoto no Yoritomo en 1192. Le nom de cette époque est dérivé de l'ancien siège du gouvernement, qui se trouvait dans la ville de Kamakura (à environ 50 km au sud-ouest de Tokyo). ). Avec l'armure (Yoroi) et le couteau de combat (Tanto), le Tachi était généralement porté sur le champ de bataille.
