Short Rifle Zunehmend gewinnen kurze, führige Läufe an Beliebtheit in der Jägerschaft. Dieser Trend wird durch die zunehmende Verwendung von Schalldämpfern unterstützt, insbesondere im Kaliber .308 Win. Standardmunition ist auf gängige Lauflängen von 600 mm ausgelegt. Beim Verschiessen von Standardmunition aus kurzen Läufen (420 mm bis 550 mm) zeigen sich folgende Nachteile: Energie- und Geschwindigkeitsverlust, eingeschränkte Wirksamkeit, ausgeprägtes Mündungsfeuer, lauter Mündungsknall und erhöhte Abnutzung bei Schalldämpfern.
