| Die Heckler & Koch P9S (das Kürzel „P9S“ steht für: „Pistole – 9 Schuss – Spannabzug“) ist eine moderne Selbstladepistole mit Spannabzug und halbstarr verriegeltem (beweglich abgestütztem) Rollenverschluss. Markante äußere Merkmale der P9S sind: Die weitgehend geschlossene und somit schmutzunempfindliche Bauweise, die Verwendung von Blechprägeteilen für Griffstück und Verschlussstück, eine reflexmindernde und korrosionssichere Oberflächenbehandlung, ein Griff-/Abzugsbügelelement aus Kunststoff, ein multifunktionaler Spann-/Entspannhebel und eine separate Hebelsicherung à la Mauser HSc/HK 4. Die P9S verfügt im Kaliber 9 mm Parabellum über ein einreihiges Magazin für 9 Patronen und einen kaltgehämmerten Polygonlauf. Aufgrund des Polygonlaufes erhöht sich die Geschossgeschwindigkeit und damit der auf die Waffe wirkende Impuls. Um die Lebensdauer der Waffe zu verlängern, befindet sich unter der Laufmündung ein Gummipuffer, der den Verschluss im Rücklauf bremst. Der Rollenverschluss teilt den Impuls und verringert so zusätzlich die Rücklaufgeschwindigkeit des Verschlusses. Insgesamt hat die Waffe dadurch ein fühlbar sanfteres Verhalten im Schuss als andere Waffen des gleichen Kalibers.
