Randfeuerpatrone Hornady, .17 HMR XTPVon Präriehunden über Kojoten bis hin zu Füchsen bietet die Hornady „Rimfire-Munitionslinie“ Hochgeschwindigkeits-Randfeuerpatronen für die Schädlingsbekämpfung. Diese Patronen sind aber nicht nur für die Jagd auf Schädlinge, sondern auch für das präzise Scheibenschiessen sehr gut geeignet. Die hohe Rasanz, die geringen Munitionskosten und der nicht vorhandene Rückstoss sind optimale Voraussetzungen für eine sehr gute Trainingspatrone. Die deutlich höhere Mündungsgeschwindigkeit gegenüber der .22lr. ermöglicht zum Beispiel ein realistischeres Training auf den Laufenden Keiler, da die Vorhaltemasse mit einer grosskalibrigen Büchsenpatrone übereinstimmen. Auch jagdlich gesehen hat die .17 HMR gegenüber der .22lr die Nase vorne. Wo bei einer „normalen“ 22-er bei maximal 90-100m die Grenze erreicht ist, reicht die .17 HMR gut bis 150m raus. Die hochpräziesen, höchstwirkungsvollen Geschosse von Hornady sorgen für eine extreme Augenblickswirkung und bannen daher das Wild an den Platz. Zur Zeit hat Hornady drei verschiedene Geschosse im Angebot. Das altbekannte V-Max-Geschoss, mit der explosionsartigen Expansion, das neuere, bleifreie NTX-Geschoss und das neuste XTP-Geschoss, welches bis zu 200m eingesetzt werden kann.
