Beschreibung

Der LDP-Karabiner (auch bekannt als Kommando oder umgangssprachlich "Rhuzi") im Kaliber 9mm Para (9×19mm Parabellum) ist eine historische Handfeuerwaffe. Sie wurde Mitte der 1970er-Jahre von Alex du Plessis in Rhodesien (heute Simbabwe) entwickelt und von der Firma Lacoste Engineering Pty hergestellt.

Das Kürzel LDP steht dabei für die Nachnamen der beteiligten Personen und des Herstellers: Lacoste (Firma), Du Plessis (Konstrukteur) und Panter (Finanzier). Gelegentlich wird es im Englischen auch als "Land Defence Pistol" interpretiert.

Konstruktion: Die Waffe basiert technisch stark auf der tschechoslowakischen Samopal Sa 23/25-Serie. Sie besitzt einen zuschiessenden Masseverschluss (Open Bolt) und ein Teleskopverschluss-System, bei dem der Verschluss den Lauf umschliesst. Das Magazin wird direkt durch den Pistolengriff eingeführt.

Einsatzbereich: Entwickelt wurde der LDP-Karabiner primär während des Rhodesischen Buschkriegs. Er diente als günstige, leicht zu produzierende Selbstverteidigungswaffe für die Zivilbevölkerung und Farmer im ländlichen Raum.
