Das SSGW 20 ist das neue Zielfernrohr-Sturmgewehr der Schweizer Armee, eingeführt für spezialisierte Einheiten wie das Armee-Aufklärungsdetachement 10 (AAD 10) und das Spezialdetachement der Militärpolizei. Entwickelt wurde das Gewehr vom US-amerikanischen Hersteller Lewis Machine & Tool Company (LMT). Es basiert auf der bewährten MARS-H Plattform und ist auf hohe Präzision, Zuverlässigkeit und Modularität ausgelegt. Das Gewehr verschießt Munition im Kaliber 7.62×51 mm NATO und erfüllt damit die Anforderungen an ein modernes Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR). Dank seines modularen Aufbaus mit monolithischem Gehäuse, M-LOK-Handschutz und vollständig beidhändig bedienbaren Bedienelementen bietet das SSGW 20 maximale Flexibilität im Einsatz. Ausgestattet ist das Gewehr mit einem Schmidt & Bender 3-20×50 PM II Zielfernrohr mit TREMOR3-Absehen, das Schussdistanzen bis 800 Meter unterstützt. Der hochwertige Lauf mit 5R-Zugprofil und das abgestimmte Gasdrucksystem tragen zur hohen Treffgenauigkeit bei. Äußerlich fällt das SSGW 20 durch seine robuste Cerakote-Beschichtung in Flat Dark Earth auf. Es verwendet 20-Schuss-Magazine im AR10-Standard und ist mit einem zweistufigen Abzug ausgestattet, der ein sauberes Schussverhalten erlaubt. Mit der Einführung des SSGW 20 ersetzt die Armee schrittweise das ältere STGW 12 (SIG 751 SAPR) und stellt ihren Spezialkräften ein modernes Präzisionsgewehr zur Verfügung, das den heutigen taktischen Anforderungen gerecht wird.
