Mit einem Kaliber von 5,56 x 45 mm sorgt das Kurzhub-Gaskolben-Betätigungssystem dafür, dass keine heißen Kohlenstoffablagerungen in den Mechanismus gelangen, sodass die Waffe länger läuft, weniger Wartung braucht und die inneren Teile weniger verschleißen als bei ARs mit direktem Aufprall. Mit dem einstellbaren Gasregler kann man den Mechanismus speziell für den Einsatz mit oder ohne Schalldämpfer anpassen.
