| Manufactured in 1881. Full octagon barrel with original fixed front sight and ladder rear sight graduated to 1000 yards and marked at the top "1876". The top of the barrel forward of the rear sight is marked "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN CT. U.S.A./KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860-". The caliber designation is marked on top of the barrel in front of the frame. The brass elevator is engraved on the bottom with the caliber as well. The upper tang is engraved "MODEL 1876". Condition: The metal has turned mostly gray with scattered dark spotting and areas of surface spotting as well as scattered small dings. The original sliding dust cover is present on top of the frame. The small screw is missing from the upper tang. Mechanically the action needs some attention, works but is stiff. A few other issues are the action has been welded at the basse and the lever lock in not pinned, also the barrel has been re-lined. The bore is bright with strong rifling. Antique. |
