| 45-60 Winchester; fair bore, good stock, 28'' barrel, Manufactured in 1883. Round barrel with fixed front and a period replacement ladder rear sights, the ladder sight marked at the top "1876". Stamped on top of the barrel "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING-ARMS, NEW HAVEN, CT. / KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 2, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860.". The caliber designation "CAL. 45-60" is stamped over the barrel chamber. The upper tang is stamped "-MODEL. 1876-" and the serial number is located on the lower tang. The bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is stamped "45-60". The top of the barrel behind the rear sight is stamped with a large star marking.. The metal finish has aged to a fairly even light patina overall. There are scattered small areas of minor-light pitting. Markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock and forend have been lightly sanded long ago. There is a wood patched repair along the right side of the upper receiver tang and a repaired crack along the left side of the tang. Crescent buttplate with trap for cleaning rod sections. Mechanically fine. The bore has strong rifling however is a bit dark and shows corrosion throughout. Antique., s/n 404xx |
