| Description: |
| An example of the many types of these weapons used by OSS personnel during WW2. Edged weapons such as these were usually privately purchased both at home and abroad, and there is no actual official procurement records of any weapon of this type being issued. This example has a 6 3/16 inch polished steel triangular blade with each side having a blood groove. 2 1/2 inch oblong steel guard, 4 3/8 inch leather covered handle with a centered snap for attaching to the loop on the scabbard. The leather scabbard measures a 10 1/2 inch OAL, and is marked on the backside of the loop "MELCHIOR CUTLERY / PHILA. PA". Melchior was a silverware company in business during the WW2 period. The receptive snap for the handle of the weapon is located in the center of the loop, and the snap functions fine. A simple but well made dagger in overall excellent condition. Weapons such as this are mentioned in the book "OSS WEAPONS II SECOND EDITION" by Dr. John W Brunner on page 78/79., |
