| Description: |
| very good grips, 11.5'' barrel, This is a very good condition U.S. M1892 bayonet dated 1901, made for the Springfield Model 1892-99 Krag-Jørgensen rifles, some which were still in use during WWI. It is fitted with its original all steel scabbard with a swivel belt loop on the back. The "Krag" was the U.S. Army's first repeating rifle, and the M1892 bayonet was based on the Swiss M1889 bayonet, made for use on the 7.5 mm. M1889 Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull bolt-action rifle. This example is in very good condition, with the original bright finish and a very nice condition blade. It has not been sharpened. The blade has a 7.5" blood groove on both sides of the blade. The wood grips are in very good condition. The post 1899 pattern "ribbed" grips unfortunately have been worn smooth and are held in place by the correct dome headed rivets, which were not ground down. It is marked 1901 on one side, and US on the other, and has a fully functional bayonet catch. The scabbard has lost most of its finish and has scattered patina. It has a fully functional swivel. The scabbard body has a few small / mild dents. A very nice honest used example, ready to display or add to your Springfield Krag rifle!, s/n 19xx |
