| 45-70 GOVT; good bore, good stock, 22'' barrel, Light patina metal. Walnut stock with long comb is a later replacement, with butt trap and compartments for cleaning rod sections. Fixed front sight. Ladder rear sight with C marked base, ladder with graduations to 1200 yards. Lockplate is a likely later replacement, marked with the American Eagle motif and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" without date. Casehardened breechblock has aged gray, marked U.S./MODEL/1873 without eagleshead proof. Stock has been sanded, leaving a faint illegible inspector cartouche and rack markings on top of the butt.
