Trigger guard is a fabricated sheet brass replacement with no sling swivel provision. Missing the upper sling swivel. Lower band is missing the keeper spring with a brass screw used to secure. The stock has a large wood filler repair on the right side, at the back of the lock, up to the barrel tang. The left side has a crack which running from the trigger plate up to the rear of the tie plate, and between the rear of the tie plate and barrel. The left side of the butt has 2-3 small cracks athe the plate. Metal and wood have traces of varnish. The lock is not functioning properly and the hammer screw has been replaced. According to some information, approximately 165,000 of these Prussian muskets, both converted M1809 and M1839 types were purchased by the Union during the American Civil War, with fewer than 20% being rifled muskets. Undoubtedly many were procured by the Confederate states as well. Antique |
