| 32 ACP; 85% blue, good bore, good grips, 3 3/8'' barrel, Invented by Heinrich Ortgies and manufactured 1919-1924. These were well made, simple and inexpensive commercially produced pistols which made their way across Europe after WWI, with many being exported to the Americas. Supposedly the American gangster John Dillinger carried an Ortgies pistol at times. Undoubtedly many of these likely found their way into young German soldiers pockets as WWII progressed. This example has its original blued finish and walnut grips. The inset medallion's HO logo on the grips indicates manufacture between 1919 through 1921. Original bright finished magazine marked on both sides with the HO logo and "7,65m/m". The pistol is stamped with commercial Crown/N proofing and has the German export marking on the left side of the slide "GERMANY". The left side of the slide is also stamped "Ortgies-Patent. / Deutsche Werke Aktiengesellschaft, / Werk Erfurt.". The metal finish has areas of thinning and light spotting, with holstering wear around the muzzle end of the slide. Scattered fairly light scratches which are to be expected after years of handling. The bore has strong rifling, showing light corrosion throughout. Mechanically fine., s/n 470xx |
