| 40 Caliber; fair bore, good stock, 39'' barrel, Rifle maker Nathan Tyler ran his workshop out of Vienna Ohio c.1850's up until the early 1890's. This percussion half stock rifle has a part octagon part round barrel of about 40 caliber. Marked on top of the flat "N.B.TYLER". Silver blade front sight dovetailed to the barrel with a fixed buckhorn shaped rear sight. The barrels under rib has been resoldered, at least once and maybe twice in the years. The stock is plain walnut, with brass buttplate, bone 2" toeplate, brass patchbox and pewter forend cap. Brass hooked trigger guard, with double set triggers. The backlock plate is maker marked from a Pennsylvania lock and rifle builder Joseph C. Randall. The lock, unfortunately is not working. The stock shows its age, small crack between the small brass tieplate and barrel on the left side and has been cleaned on on the right side under and around the bolster, where there is heavy pitting. |
