Description:
7 X 57mm; 94% blue, excellent bore, good stock, 25'' barrel, Original blue finish and European walnut stock. A fine example of an earlier production Mondragon Model 1908 semi-automatic rifle chambered for the 7 x 57mm Mauser cartridge. Designed by Col. Manuel Mondragon of the Mexican army, these rifles were contracted to be made in Switzerland by SIG. Only a very few of this model were delivered to Mexico, the remaining rifles left in Switzerland after cancellation of the contract were sold to Germany during WWI, and these were used by the German air force, being issued to aircrew for aircraft to aircraft engagements. These were some of the earliest sucessful semi-automatic military rifles, a complex design for the time, and could be utilized as a straight pull bolt action by a simple button located on the bolt lever. 8 round box magazine fed, this example has the SIG designed magazine catch system which could use a 20 round magazine after removing the floorplate on the magazine box. Fixed front inverted "V", ladder rear sight graduated to 2000 meters. Matching serial numbers on the left side of the receiver, top of the bolt body, top of the cocking handle and back of the magazine catch. The stock is marked with a number 8165 on the lower left side just above the magazine. Condition: The metal finish shows light, mostly edge wear. The stock has small dings and scratches over all. Mechanically fine and clean internally with a bright sharp bore. C&R/FFL, s/n 2xx
