| Description: |
| 8mm Mauser; poor bore, fair stock, 29'' barrel, Authentic all original WW1 Gewehr 98 snipers rifle with dual claw offset sniper mounts. All numbered parts except the front action screw are matching including the rear scope mount, no number found on the front mount. Standard Imperial proofing on right receiver ring. British crown/BNP nitro proofs on bolt and left receiver, with the "tons" export release markings on the bottom of the barrel. Missing the cleaning rod. The metal has turned light brown patina over all with some minor pitting along the wood line and pitting on the bands. Walnut stock with legible Imperial proofing on the right side and bottom. The stock shows quite a bit of wear and handling but no major damage with exception of gouges on bottom and right upper forend. The bore is dark and worn. This rifle most definitely saw use in the trenches during the war. Provenance: Collection of Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess. Mechanically fine. Tiny import mark on receiver. C&R/FFL, s/n xxi |
