Description:
7.63mm Mauser; 96% blue, fair bore, good grips, 5.5'' barrel, This pistol was produced ca. 1916, in a special serial number range which was typical for special contracts or orders. Possibly for what collectors have termed the "Scandinavian" contract, although no records exist from Mauser for this contract. At this time all production was being absorbed by the German military with orders being placed by the various German states for the war effort. It is probable that the German authorities supplied these special serial number range pistols to the Scandinavian countries for their efforts against Russia at the time. This example has the small ring hammer with NS (New Safety) marking, and the safety lever knob is solid, without the hole seen on later production. This pistol has the original blued finish and grooved walnut grips. All matching including the grips and stock. Fixed front sight, tangent rear sight graduated to 1000 meters. Standard Mauser markings, "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N" on top of the barrel knox, "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER / OBERNDORF A NECKAR" on the right side of the frame. Standard commercial crown/U proofs located on the left side of the barrel extension and top of the bolt charging grip. Condition: the metal finish shows some expected high area wear from insertion into the stock, however this wear is fairly light. There is some pin prick speckling on the right side of the magazine housing. The fire blue finish on some small parts is thinning but overall generous. The right grip has some chipping to the edges of the grooves around the screw ferrule. The stock is in overall Good condition with moderate dings and scuffs, however there is a 3.5" crack on the right corner of the stock toe. Accompanying this pistol are Mauser certificate and copies of correspondence between the previous owner and Mauro Baudino, Firearm Historian and Mauser Company Expert, which gives helpful information on this pistol and some interesting history., s/n 55xx
