| Description: |
| 8.15x46mm; 98% blue, excellent bore, very good stock, 29'' barrel, This particular Wehrmanngewehr rifle represents an example that was likely a privately contracted build circa the mid 1920's when these larger caliber rifles were becoming popular in Germany with the various sport shooting clubs. And this rifle is a single shot, the magazine well having a wooden block with channel. Built using surplus GEW 98 rifles and parts, the receiver on this rifle is scrubbed of any markings, with the exception of Crown/N, B and U proofs on the right side of the ring. The barrel is proofed on the left side with Zella Mehlis commercial proofing. The straight handled bolt and its components are not numbered. The bolt handle shank has original Imperial proofs and a stamp which is similar to a Czech lion proof. The stock has a serial number stamped along the bottom behind the lower sling swivel base, with an unknown Scriptic S over H marking. Both the upper and lower barrel bands are stamped with the number 13, which does not coincide with the stock number. The rifle has the standard inverted V front sight, and has the original GEW tangent rear sight. The rear sight is odd in that on many of these conversions the sights were re-graduated with added marks or other alterations for the 8.15x46 mm cartridge. This one retains the graduations with no obvious difference from an original military rifle chambered for 8x57mm. The metal finish is bright and even overall with no discernable wear. The wood shows some handling dings and scratches. The bore is bright and sharp. From the collection of Robert Simpson., Training Rifles of Third Reich Germany pp 431, s/n 45xx |
