.470 Nitro Express; 99% blue, near mint bore, excellent stock, 28'' barrel, A Famous Name English Gunmakers' Dangerous Game Double Rifle in a most sought after .470 Nitro Express Caliber. Featuring: 28? Chopper lump steel barrels have full length rib, with doll’s head extension and third fastener. Express rear sight with one standing, and 2 folding leaves and platinum lines, marked for 100, 200, and 300 yds. is dovetailed through rib. Front bead is longitudinally dovetailed into raised, file cut, nicely shaped base. The barrel flats show London nitro proofs, for “470 EX”, and “CORDITE 75-500 MAX" ( which refers to powder charge then maximum bullet weight ) and includes our small import mark. Loop is stamped with SN “8697”. Sling eye is soldered to bottom rib. Robust, long bar, Webley action has Birmingham proofs on water table, and features bushed strikers, pivoting bolt third fastener, and automatic safety. Action is engraved with well executed shaded openwork scroll at about 80% coverage, and “Manton & Co” is on both sides. Trigger guard extends to steel grip cap and is engraved with scroll and SN. Nicely figured European walnut full pistol grip has a wood extended buttstock measures 14 5/8? LOP to a soft rubber recoil pad and features shadow line cheek piece for right hand shooter, sling eye, vacant silver oval, steel grip cap and 18 LPI checkering with mullered borders. Anson release splinter forend has checkering and wood to match buttstock. Drop at heel measures to Approx. 2 1/4" and drop at comb measures Approx. 1 3/8?. Over all weight of this rifle is 11 lbs. The Manton & Co. canvased case is in very good condition, featuring stitched leather corners, original Manton & Company labels, lined in green cloth and adorned with leather strap belts and buckles, brass snap and leather carry handle.
