Description:
22 LONG RIFLE; good bore, good stock, 26'' barrel, Conversion at Spandau circa 1940-41 for Marksman training with a ZF-41 scope mounted on the left side of the barrel, similar to the K98 ZF-41 marksmans rifles. Note from Robert Simpson: "The ordnance depot at Spandau (suburb of Berlin) converted both DSM's and KKW's for sniper training with the ZF41 scope. Although very rare several of the Gustloff KKW snipers with the Spandau "SU" proof are known. The Spandau converted DSM's however seem to be much scarcer as I only have seen two examples, one Simson and one JGA. The two known examples are identical in the method of conversion and added SU marking. The JGA example was missing the scope base, but while sorting a large collection in Europe a scope base was located that appeared to have not been used, it curiously has a scriptic initial P on the back side.". This example has lost most of the blued finish. Walnut stock and handguard have had a coat of varnish applied. Non-matching bolt. First type extractor. Stamped on top of the receiver chamber with the JGA logo over "THURINGEN" bordering the circular logo. The serial numbers are located on the left side of the barrel and receiver. The left side of the receiver is roll stamped "GERMANIAWAFFENWERK A.-G. ZELLA-MEHLIS". The left side of the barrel is stamped with a Crown/N proof and "Nitro". Crown/B, U and G proofs are located on the right side of the barrel and receiver. The stock disc has been modified with a larger hole. Missing the sling hook at the slot in the stock. A non-original clearing rod is installed on the forend. Inverted V fixed front sight, tangent rear sight graduated 25-200. The base for the ZF-41 scope is not externally marked. The stock recessed for the base and scope installation. And the side of the barrel has been milled for the base. The scope has both sliding shades. Marked "ZF41-1". Code "eso" with the blue +. Optics are fair, no visible reticle, dirt specks. The scope mount is code marked "duv" with stick eagle/214 proof. The back leg of the mount is marked "K98k-ZF.41". From the Robert Simpson collection., Training Rifles of Third Reich Germany pp 120, s/n 54xx
