| 8mm (M88); 50% blue, very good bore, good stock, 18'' barrel, This Kar88 carbine is completely matching and notable for its late date of manufacture. It was several years before the German cavalry adopted a short rifle, so these carbines continued in service for an extended period of time. The receiver is stamped "V.C.S/SUHL/1906". The left side of the receiver ring is stamped with commercial pre-war proof marks. The side rail is stamped "Gew.88". Original metal finish, mostly patina on the originally blued parts, receiver and barrel bands in the white. Walnut stock, un-numbered with two Imperial proofs on the bottom. Non-original for an 88 carbine leather sling. The stock has two spots of wood filler, on the left side of the wrist and right side of the forend. The metal has some dark spotting. No "S" marks on the receiver for the updated ammunition. Mechanically fine. Nice bore for one of these. From the collection of Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess.
