| An excellent example of a Double Engraved Presentation 1st Model Luftwaffe Dagger. Presented to Third Reich Luftwaffe ace Captain Reinhold Knacke, born, 01 Jan 1919 in Strelitz. Shot down and killed in Holland on 03 Feb 1943. Knacke was a recipient of the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves (posthumously awarded on 07 Feb 1943, after scoring a total of 44 flight victories. Beautiful raised gold dedication on a deep blue panel. 12-inch double edge lade will grade MINT and the tang is deeply stamped, “501”. Complete with portepee, documentation and receipt from Johnsons Reference Books where the dagger was purchased. The grip is a blue Moroccan leather and is tightly wrapped with triple brass wire, the center being twisted for contrast. The scabbard is straight throughout, with a covering of blue Moroccan leather. The scabbard has nickel point, throat and mid chain attachment that are retained by headless side screw. Attached to the scabbard is an aluminum chain connected to a nickel plated clip marked "GES.GESCH, with a brown leather hanger, the portepee does show some wear. |
