| 455 Caliber; 60% blue, very good bore, good grips, 5.5'' barrel, This is an example of a revolver manufactured by Edwinson C. Green, circa 1890, one of a few different variations with the stirrup type barrel latch patented by him. This style revolver is similar in overall appearance to the Webley No.4 455 caliber revolvers with some differences, mainly in the barrel latch design which cams upwards to release the barrel for extraction and loading. Mr. Green produced high quality firearms, including shotguns, in his small shop in Glocester England. Engraved on top of the barrel rib "E.C. GREEN, MAKER, HIGH ST. CHELTENHAM 455". The left side of the barrel is marked with the caliber designation 455 CF. The revolver has the standard for the period commercial proofs on the frame and over each chamber. The original bright blue finish shows wear and thinning overall, with the areas of finish loss having turned a gray patina with some spotting. Fitted with original one piece checkered walnut grips, which show some light wear to the points on the checkering, with well defined detail and border engraving. Mechanically fine with good lockup. The top tip of the hammer has chipped with a small piece missing. Includes an original leather full flap holster with an illegible maker marking on the inside rough of the strap. The inside of the flap has a broad arrow mark over a 2, in very good intact condition, having been dyed a dark brown at some point. Antique., s/n 30xx |
