| 56-50 Spencer RF; good bore, 20'' barrel, Marked on top of the receiver "SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE/PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860/MANUF'D AT PROV. R.I./BY BURNSIDE RIFLE CO." and along the front top edge of the receiver "MODEL/1865". 3 groove rifled barrel with fixed front sight and folding ladder rear sight. Stabler cutoff device forward of the trigger. Walnut stock with two clearly visible script 3 letter inspector cartouches on the left side. Original magazine tube. The finish on the barrel has turned an even blue/patina mix with surface rust spotting overall. The casehardened frame has turned a mottled light brown patina. Markings remain crisp on top of the receiver. The stock and forend are very dark with heavy wear to surface wood on the forend and some on the bottom and left side of the buttstock. The left side of the forend has loss of wood along the upper edge with a split section about center of the upper edge. The buttplates toe screw is missing. Mechanically this carbine is in very good condition and functions well. The bore has some shine and sharp rifling, with areas of corrosion/rust throughout. Antique, s/n 87xx |
