| 40-65 Winchester; 60% blue, excellent bore, very good stock, 25.25'' barrel, Manufactured 1886-1890 in direct competition with Winchester and Marlin but never obtaining the expected sales, these rifles were of low production with under 12000 being made. Unique to this design was the bottom loading door for the magazine tube. Original blue finish and walnut stock with crescent shaped rifle butt. Full octagon barrel which has been altered to length long ago, with a fixed silver bladed front sight and buckhorn style elevation adjustable rear sight, this example also has a period tang mounted aperature sight installed. Marked on the upper left side of the frame "BULLARD REPEATING ARMS COMPANY/SPRINGFIELD, MASS. U.S.A. PAT. AUG. 16, 1881". The top of the frame over the chamber is marked for the caliber "Cal/40". Condition: Generous original bright blue finish remains, the metal showing scattered handling scratches and areas of thinning. The wood is very nice showing minor handling wear. The original sliding dust cover is present on top of the frame. Mechanically fine, the bore is bright and sharp. Antique., s/n 7xx |
