| Description: |
| 577 Cal; fair bore, good stock, 37.75'' barrel, Original Civil War era rifle musket, which has been modified. The lock is marked 1862/TOWER with the Royal Crown at the back, lacking the V.R. which indicates a gun meant for export, and many of which ended up being sent in one way or another to the U.S. during the war, seeing use by both sides. At some point this gun had the barrel shortened to length, a small blade soldered to the barrel for use at the front sight, the stock altered as well with the brass forend tip re-attached, the ramrod modified to length, and only two bands have been used to retain the stock. The lower most band is a non-original to the gun replacement which has a small screw on one side to hold it in place. The stock has been checkered at the wrist as well. The stock ahs no markings. The barrel has the standard British proofing along the left side. Patina metal with some pitting around the area of the bolster and on the replaced flat iron lower band. The action works fine. The nipple is damaged from dry firing. The stock has a split along the barrel on the right side of the forend and a crack on the left side between the barrel and rear lockplate screw. The bore is surface rusty. Antique., |
