| 22 LONG RIFLE; 90% blue, very good bore, very good stock, 17.75'' barrel, In 1934 P. Beretta developed these single shot carbines for civilian training purposes, utilizing the Vetterli bolt action. These small and very well made carbines are rather rare in the U.S. This is an early production example still having the Vitali magazine, though it is non-functioning. Later examples omitted the magazine and had a sheet metal cover installed over the holes in the bottom of the stock. Original blued finish, mounted in a walnut stock and handguard. Marked on top of the barrel knox "BERETTA GARDONE" and dated 1934. The right side of the barrel knox is marked "BREVETTO", upside down. Fixed front and rear sights. An original period leather sling is attached. The numbered parts are matching. The left side of the stock butt is heavily stamped with a P. Beretta Gardone logo. Vitali type safety. Overall condition is Very Good, showing some areas of thinning finish and a few minor handling marks on the stock. Mechanically fine and complete. This rifle is from the Robert Simpson collection and is pictured in the book "Training Rifles of Third Reich Germany" on page 603., The Italian Vetterli Rifle pp 88, s/n 16xx |
