| 45/70 Cal; 85% blue, excellent bore, good stock, 28'' barrel, One of several variations of the No.6 1/2, this example has a blued finished part octagon/part round barrel with 6 groove rifling. Windage adjustable front sight with fine aperture disc. Long Range Vernier rear sight. Casehardened receiver. Single trigger. Mounted in select checkered varnished walnut, forend with bone tip. Semi-pistol grip stock with bone inlay and Swiss style buttplate. Caliber designation 45-70 stamped on the left barrel flat. Stamped on the left side of the receiver "J.M. MARLIN. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. / BALLARD'S PATENT. NOV. 5. 1861.". C: The blued finish on the barrel remians bright with scattered light spotting and slight wear around the muzzle and edges of the octagonal portion. The case colors on the receiver are fading with some mottling and minor spotting. The wood shows some handling and there is a 1 1/2" tight crack on the butt behind the frame over the left side.
