Ein sehr eigenes Design stammt aus der Feder von Butch Vallotton. Mit dem Subhilt hat er ein Messer geschaffen, das auch innerhalb des Spyderco-Programms eine Sonderstellung einnimmt. Das geradlinige Design weist eine ausgezeichnete Ergonomie auf und begeistert mit hoher Vielseitigkeit. Die Klinge ist hohlgeschliffen, weist im Bereich der Spitze jedoch einen balligen Schliff für mehr Stabilität auf. Der für Spyderco sehr untypische Daumenknopf dient gleichzeitig auch als Klingenanschlag. Die polierten G-10 Schalen sitzen passgenau zwischen den gebürsteten Edelstahlbacken. Eines der schönsten Spyderco Klappmesser, wurde 2011 zum besten Spyderco Modell und zum besten Importklappmesser in den USA gekürt.
