Die Betätigung erfolgt nur über einen horizontal schwenkbaren Kammergriff (kein Spannschieber und keine Sicherung notwendig) – so schnell wie beim Biathlon. Der Repetiervorgang ist leichtgängig und kann weitgehend geräuscharm erfolgen. Der Heym SR 30 Verschluss verriegelt über sechs Kugeln im Hülsenkopf. Der Verschluss wurde im Beschussamt Suhl in einer Versuchsreihe bis 8000 bar belastet. Die farblich gekennzeichnete Kammerhebelsperre sorgt dafür, dass beim Tragen die Waffe nicht unbeabsichtigt geöffnet oder gespannt werden kann. Eine Zündung der Patrone bei nicht ganz verriegeltem Verschluss ist ausgeschlossen.
