Fu infatti grazie ai test eseguiti dagli svizzeri in vista dell'adozione di una nuova pistola d'ordinanza che Georg Luger poté dare sfogo al suo genio creativo, migliorando dapprima il progetto di Hugo Borchardt e in seguito producendo quel capolavoro di meccanica che, a un secolo di distanza, viene ancora giustamente considerato ineguagliato.
