Das Savage Model 24 wurde 1938 von Stevens Arms als Model 22-410 eingeführt. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs kaufte das United States Army Air Corps etwa 15.000 Model 22-410 für den Einsatz als „Survivel gun“. Im Jahr 1950 stellte Stevens die Herstellung der 22-410 ein und Savage übernahm die Fertigung mit der Modell Bezeichnung 24. Zur besseren Unterbringung in Flugzeugen kann es ohne Werkzeug zerlegt werden. Die Fertigung des Modell 24 wurde erst 2010 eingestellt. Die Stevens- und frühen Savages-Modelle haben einen Abzug und einen freiliegenden Hahn, einen Wahlschalter auf der rechten Seite des Gehäuses (nach oben für den Gewehrlauf und nach unten für den Schrotflintenlauf) und keine manuelle Sicherung. |
