| Die Lazy Dog (manchmal auch Red Dot Bomb oder Yellow Dog Bomb genannt ) ist ein kleines, ungelenktes kinetisches Projektil der US Air Force . Es war etwa 44 mm lang, hatte einen Durchmesser von 13 mm und wog etwa 20 g. Die Waffen waren für den Abwurf aus Flugzeugen konzipiert. Sie enthielten keine Sprengladung, verfügten aber über eine hohe kinetische Energie, wenn sie aus großer Höhe oder mit hoher Geschwindigkeit abgeworfen wurden. Dadurch waren sie tödlich und konnten weiche Deckungen wie Dschungelblätter, mehrere Zentimeter Sand oder leichte Panzerung durchdringen. Lazy-Dog-Munition war einfach und relativ billig; sie konnte in großen Mengen auf einmal abgeworfen werden. Obwohl ihre Wirkung oft nicht weniger tödlich war als die anderer Geschosse, hinterließen sie keine Blindgänger , die noch Jahre nach Konfliktende aktiv sein konnten. Lazy-Dog-Projektile wurden hauptsächlich im Koreakrieg und im Vietnamkrieg eingesetzt . |
