Black Label - damals noch Special Old Highland Whisky genannt - auf den Markt brachte,wollten sie die einzigartige Markenidentität auch visuell zum Ausdruck bringen. Sie veranstalten einen Wettbewerb. Es war der Karikaturist Tom Browen, der das Logo entwarf. Während eines Mittagessens mit Lord Stevenson, einem der Direktoren von Walker, drehte Tom Browen eine Speisekarte um und zeichnete auf der Rückseite die noch heute berühmte Figur des Schreitenden Mannes.
