Description:
Deutsch:

English:
Beautiful reproduction coming close to - IOWA COONSKIN - Length of club = c.23,6" = 60cm
Carved from a single piece of hard maple (Acer pseudoplatanus) with ball ending in the root part
and with grain following the shape of the war club. Forged spike for killing and decorated with
brass nails.
The shape of this weapon appeared in a dream along with an otter offering help to Iowa Coonskin,
a member of the Otoe-Missouri (often fighting against the Sioux) Nation. Coonskin is reported to
have said: ?The club . . is as powerful as a war bundle full of medicine.? That's why there is
an otter above the ball.
The original is in the NMAI in the USA: Catalog Number 3/3555. John Baldwin also describes this
in his book "Indian War Clubs of The American Frontier" on page 21 that the club originally comes
from the eastern woodlands and the brass nails were added much later, on the way to the prairie
in the west (Oklahoma). ?The metal spike has a very unusual shape. It would be very effective in
battle.?
A beautiful reproduction from 2014 - on the body with patina except the ball, traditionally
treated with linseed and camellia oil.
The forged iron blade sits firmly in the ball additionally secured by epoxy.
