Description:
Very rare muzzle loading black powder percussion target rifle, manufactured by prominent New Orleans gunmaker Jean-Baptiste Revol probably sometime in the 1850s, in very good condition with 85% finish. 4/5 Bore (excellent, sharp rifling, no pitting in the bore, mild pitting in the chamber). 5/5 Stock.

Stock is a beautiful tiger striped maple wood. Remarkable condition with light pressure marks scattered throughout. Deep diamond checkering on the wrist is in excellent condition. Plaque inlaid on the left side of the stock, forward of the grip, presumably of the original owner; name appears to be P.A. Euler, and dated September 1859.

The only part that is blued is the octagonal barrel. The barrel's bluing is mildly worn throughout and there is light edge wear. Very light surface pitting. There is what appears to be a dovetail insert on the top side, possibly where a different sight could have been installed if the tang sight wasn't in use.

The bore is straight rifled with six lands and grooves. No pitting at all in the bore. Mild pitting in the chamber as can be expected of a black powder rifle of its age, and that the chamber can be a difficult area to clean.

The lock plate is engraved with "J.B. Revol" over "N. Orleans". Flat head screws feature a well-preserved engraved embellishment of a flower on the screw heads.

Features a double set trigger system.

Front sight is adjustable for windage. Rear tang site has a diopter that is adjustable for elevation and has six selectable apertures.

Rifle includes a 27" ram rod with a rubber spacer to keep it centered within the bore. 26" long powder rod is capable of being stored on the rifle, however it must be removed prior to firing, otherwise the bullet will strike the funnel.

Many additional accessories are included for the owner that intends to shoot the rifle: Adjustable padded rifle shooting rest with cup for holding tools Powder trickler for measuring powder charges Two projectile starter rods: one is a standard starter rod and the other has a spring for an easier push Lead dipper Bullet casting mold and spare mold chamber Various muzzleloading tools such as a smaller powder rod and percussion cap nipple remover A large amount of already cast bullets of various grains Spare parts, including a spare set of sights, percussion cap nipples, and screws

These accessories will ship separately from the rifle.

Antique; no import engraving.
